How to watch HBO on your TV: official methods, alternatives and applications
Today we’re going to explain to you what your alternatives are to watch HBO on your TV. Being able to enjoy your favorite series and movies on full screen from this service is surely one of the reasons why you may be paying for it, although there are times when you may find that your TV or device does not allow you to watch it.
The easiest thing to do will always be to watch HBO on your TV with the official application. However, this is not available for all televisions, consoles or devices, so we will also mention a few more alternatives that you can have in mind.
You can use all the following options, and vizio smartcast .apk will help, because it is universal for any device.
1. With the official app for Smart TV
The first way, of course, is to use HBO Spain’s own official application. However, this application is currently only available on Samsung TVs, so unless you have a Smart TV of this brand you will not be able to enjoy the native experience of the streaming service.
In general, if you have a 2012 to 2018 Samsung Smart TV model the application should come preinstalled. If not, you can download it from the TV app store itself, and once installed all you have to do is enter it and log in with your HBO credentials.
2. With Chromes and other compatible dongles
HBO Spain has applications for Android devices, so you can benefit from the option of sending content to Chromes in case you have one on your TV. In addition, you can also do the same with any device or dongle that also implement the transmission technology of Chromes.
To send content through your application, you first have to click on the Chromes icon (1) that you will see on the top right of the screen. You don’t need to do this while watching the video, as you can do it in the main menu. Then, in the Send to window that will appear when you do it clicks on the name of your Chromes or compatible device (2) to establish a connection and send the content you start playing in the app.
Not only can you do this with the Android app, but you can also send content to Chromes from the website when you’re using Chrome. All you have to do is click on the submit content button that will appear at the bottom right of the playback window, and when you are given the options of where to send the content choose the Chromes content or compatible device you use.
3. With your PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles
HBO Spain also has an official application for the PlayStation 3 and 4 consoles, although only for them, as it does not have for other alternatives such as Xbox One. In any case, if you have a Sony console you just have to connect it, and from the main menu access the option TV and video.
You will reach an interface full of content from various platforms. Here, all you have to do is click on the HBO icon in the top bar, where all the available services are shown. You will enter directly in the application, where you will have to identify yourself with your account credentials to be able to see any content normally.
4. With Apple TV
Although HBO Spain does not yet have official applications for Android TV or devices such as Amazon Fire, you can use it on your TV with an Apple TV. The application will not come preinstalled, so you will have to download it from the app store of the device, and then enter it identifying you to use the service normally on the TV.
5. Using Vodafone TV
Another way to watch HBO on your TV is to use a Vodafone TV device. Its application comes preinstalled, so all you have to do is enter the internal menu of the decoder, and go to the options My applications or Video on demand. Both accesses will lead us to the HBO Spain app, and all you have to do is click on it to open it.
The app will then ask for your username and password and you will be able to access your account. Keep in mind that this account can be opened simultaneously in two devices, whether they are two Vodafone decoders (if we have more than one at home) or if we want to combine the viewing with the computer, a mobile phone or a tablet. We only have to remember that we have a maximum of five devices registered at the same time, and to add more we will have to delete the old ones.
6. With TV iso or any other Mini PC
Another alternative that you can resort to is to use one of the Mini PCs that are sold specially focused on being able to visualize this type of content. They are small towers very similar to an Apple TV that you can put next to a TV and connect to it with an HDMI so you can see on the screen what you do on it.
A good example of a well-adapted Mini PC is that of TV iso. This is a computer that runs Windows 10, but shows an interface adapted to the television very similar to that of any TV application. All you have to do is set up your account to add HBO as a paying service, something you can also do from their website. Then, the content of the service will begin to be indexed in the interface.
But you can really use any Mini PC, including tiny and inexpensive gadgets like Raspberry Pi. The only problem you may encounter is that you will usually face operating systems with computer interfaces that won’t look good on the TV, but will give you access to HBO through applications or the browser you open.
7. With any other HDMI computer
And in addition to small computers designed to stay next to the TV, you can also use your PC or laptop by connecting it with an HDMI cable to the TV. You’ll see on TV everything you do on your computer, so you’ll only have to use it as you would to watch HBO in your living room. Remember also to use the full screen mode of the web if you see it using the browser.
Making the connection is really simple. Just plug one end of the HDMI cable into your computer’s ready slot and the other end into the TV slot. If the TV does not pass directly to the PC you will have to use the remote to change the input source or impute, that is, the device you are viewing the screen.
